DAY 2

Bucharest - Tulcea - Tulcea branch - Sulina branch - Partizani village - Arhipencu canal - Păpădia canal - Corciovata canal - Corciovata lake - Fortuna lake - Olguța canal - Dunărea Veche canal - Mila 23 village.

Breakfast

Transfer by car/bus from Bucharest to Tulcea.

We start from Tulcea, full of hope and curiosity on the Tulcea Branch to Ceatal, where we see the separation of the two (of 3) arms of the Danube. We leave the Sfântu Gheorghe Branch on the right and continue on the Sulina Branch with a length of 64 km and a maximum depth of 18 m on its way to the sea. We pass the Partizani village and leave behind the monotony of the old river, enthusiastically entering the natural area of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve on the Arhipencu canal, a winding canal and spectacular as vegetation. It is the turn of Lakes Corciovata and Fortuna to enchant us with beautiful landscapes with white and yellow water lilies and the variety of bird species to the fishing village of Mila 23.

After about 3-4 hours of navigation, we reach the fishing village Mila 23.
Usually the ones who welcome us are the pelicans! Then it's our hosts' turn!
The locals are hardworking people but with an overflowing hospitality, happy to see other people after the long and lonely winter days. We took over the rooms for accommodation and… Lunch time! They are good cooks and over time, they have learned that not everyone eats fish and they have, carefully prepared, dishes for vegetarians, vegans or people with allergies. But our advice remains: DON'T MISS the fish dishes! The custom of the place is for the husband, a fisherman, to bring the “raw material” and for the wife to show her culinary talent, looking for the guest's satisfaction!

Lunch at the guesthouse in Mila 23

After a well-deserved siesta we prepare for a short visit through the village and the afternoon trip

For relaxation before dinner, we will leave on the route - Mila 23 - Catavaia canal - Ligheanca lake - Vacaru canal - Vacaru lake and back to Mila 23, completely relaxed, with our lungs cleansed of the air and the scents of the ponds and retina still under the impression of the images with the sunset, we headed towards.

DAY 3

Mile 23 - Eracle canal - Lopatna canal - near the Ciulini Lake - Miazazi canal - Miazazi Lake - Matita lake - Suez canal – Merhei lake - Sidor canal - Letea - Madgearu canal - Dunărea Veche canal - Bogdaproste canal - Bogdaproste lake - 3 Iezere lake - Eracle canal - Mila 23.

Breakfast

A full day awaits us, having as main attraction the village and the Letea forest. After a spectacular route on canals and lakes, the Sidor canal, towards the end, shocks us with an impressive change of landscape! After a narrow canal, bordered by reeds and rushes, sand dunes appear unexpectedly and with.. little luck… wild horses!

Letea Forest was born about 6000 years ago, after the waters of the Black Sea receded. It is not an ordinary forest, because instead of earth, the plants grow on the seabed. The secular oaks from Letea Forest are another attraction for tourists. One of them is over 780 years old, others are 400-500 years old, but only two of these trees can be seen by visitors on tourist routes. It is interesting that the roots of the trees in Letea Forest are oriented to the side, they do not go down. In general, in the reserve are meadow trees, poplars, firs and oaks, which have adapted to the conditions offered in the forest with sandy soil and have a root surface, because the groundwater is very close to ground level. That is why they do not have much resistance to strong winds and weather, so many of them are broken and fallen.

Many tourists who arrive in Letea Forest want to see, in addition to the sand dunes and secular oaks, the famous wild horses. They can't always be noticed, because they don't care what the visitors want and they walk on the 6000 hectares of the reservation. Specialists estimate that there are about 2,000 wild horses in the Letea area. They were abandoned by the locals during the communist period, either because they had nothing to feed them, or after it was declared "infectious anemia", a disease that led many horse owners to abandon their animals. Horses have multiplied over the years, and it is now estimated that there are between 3,000 and 5,000 horses in the entire reserve and almost 2,000 in the Letea area.

The most requested by tourists is the carriage ride, because the road passes through the forest and the landscape is much more picturesque. In addition, the route by cart is shorter and takes about an hour and a half. At one point, tourists get out of the cart and walk through the beautiful forest to the sand dunes, where they can see many species of plants and birds. In any season you choose to visit Letea Forest, the spectacle offered by nature is extraordinary. It is important to protect it, so that this wonder of nature can be visited by our children or grandchildren, with the same joy that the reservation provides us.

Lunch that has been provided "bundled" by our host can be served either in the woods or on board the ship.

We leave Letea on the Madgearu canal after which we enter the “Great M” line - the ancient natural route of the Danube before the Sulina arm is dug and continue towards Mila 23 through the chain of lakes - Bogdaproste

Breakfast

We say goodbye to our hosts and head to Tulcea on the Olguța and Șontea lata canals, preferred by many anglers. We leave to the left the Fortuna lake, which we crossed on arrival and we pass, next to the Baclanesti Lake, which we will stop to admire for a few moments. We enter the Șontea canal, generous with the multitude and variety of birds in the area. Swans, large and small egrets, coots and pond hens, various species of herons and ibis, woodpeckers and porpoises, all being guarded by the majestic white-tailed eagle, rotating nonchalantly at height.

After a “curve” called Cot Candura we enter the Șontea Noua canal, which gently and generously in flora and fauna leads us behind the strictly protected area of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve which is represented by Lake Nebunu. At the exit to the Șontea canal, pay close attention to white-tailed eagles who dominate this area.

Lunch at fishermen on the canal bank

We continue the trip on the Periteasca and Sireasa canals with spectacular trees dressed in wild vines, we cross the 36th canal in width and enter the North Sireasa area. Here we are at the short distance from the natural border with Ukraine is represented by the northern arm of the Danube - Chilia. We cross the Rookeries Lake so named due to the multitude of bird nests in the North Sireasa area and continue on the Trofilca canal, a favorite place of the kingfisher then on channel 36 to Tulcea.
